SUSTAINABILITY

The HiHO Brewing Co. vision includes commitment to using sustainable practices and being a good steward of the environment. Our core values include consistently making the choice to respect the Earth. Owners Ali & Jon have instilled the importance of sustainable practices in business and everyday operations from the very beginning and the HiHO team practices this every day in many different ways:

Composting & Recycling : We divert landfill waste by composting our vegan food scraps, paper products and compostable cutlery with Lets Grow Akron, a community compost cooperative. We also recycle as much as we can from metal, glass, plastic, and non-compostable paper products through the City of Cuyahoga Falls.

Summit Metro Parks : HiHO Brewing Co. was a sponsor of the Glens Trail in the Gorge Metro Park in 2023 & 2024 and introduced the “Wild Back Yards Pale Ale” in May of 2025 where a portion of the proceeds from each Wild Back Yards Dry-Hopped Pale Ale will be donated to the Summit Metro Parks Foundation! Our staff enjoys using the SMP for education and use of our local outdoor recreation. We volunteer for Metro Park activities and host our own Metro Parks Clean Ups and “Hike with HiHO” events through spring and summer.

Cuyahoga River Water Trail/Cuyahoga Valley National Park : We have an annual staff outing to kayak on the Cuyahoga River and we spearheaded the Cuyahoga River Brewery Trail in 2019 when the Cuyahoga River was officially designated as the 13th official water trail in Ohio. We love going out to kayak and see the CRWT markers and also enjoy exploring and hiking in a National Park thats just a short drive from here.

Supporting Local : From local businesses, to local food, to our local Metro Parks, we strive to support our local economy and focus on other sustainable organizations nearby. We enjoy creating relationships with small, local, and sustainably minded businesses including Akron Honey, Nosh Pantry, Duma Meats, and Akron Coffee Roasters.

Utility Management : We track our utility usage and create yearly goals to reduce our consumption. We strive for energy efficient utilities as much as possible and are always researching green alternatives for the future.

Retrofitting/Construction : HiHO’s taproom was an already existing building that we chose to retrofit, rather than creating a new building. We chose sustainable construction such as local repurposed wood for tables and the front of the bar, and LED lighting and energy efficient utilities as much as possible.
